Mistakes I Guarantee You’re Making On Instagram

Instagram has grown into one of the most influential social media platforms out there. With hundreds of millions of active users flooding to the Instagram app, it’s become a hotbed for influencers and brands to really make a name for themselves.

If you’re using Instagram to market your business, then you’re doing something right! Sadly, there’s a high chance you’re also falling victim to some of these common Instagram marketing mistakes:

Forgetting a link in your bio

It can be fairly easy to gain a strong following on Instagram, and that’s not even taking into account people that visit your page without following. As a result, you could have so many consumers all viewing your posts throughout the day. Now, here’s where one crucial mistake comes into play; you’ve got no link in your bio!! Every business page on Instagram needs a link that directs people to their website. It’s so easy to put there, and it increases the chance of people clicking it and ending up on your site.

Using poor-quality photos

Instagram is all about images. Every post is going to be of a photo or short video, with a caption. While the caption is very important, the quality of the imagery is paramount. Accounts that post poor quality photos just don’t get followers. Who’s going to want to follow an account that posts blurry images? Make sure every post is optimised for Instagram, so it fits the image parameters and is of the highest quality possible.

Keeping your account on private

This is something a lot of people do with their personal accounts, and for a good reason too. Putting your account on private means that only approved followers see what you post. It’s a good way to ensure you aren’t followed by people you don’t like. But, you shouldn’t do this with a business account. Here, you need as many people as possible to find your account and follow you. If you’re private, then you won’t appear in anyone’s ‘discover’ tab, and your posts won’t be visible to anyone unless they already follow you.

Posting at the wrong times

There are right and wrong times to publish an Instagram post. You need to post during peak times, which means you’ll get the most engagement. What’s a peak time? It varies from company to company, and it depends on your target market. If you’re targeting say 16-24-year-olds, then a peak time is either at lunch from 11-1 pm, or in the evening at around 6 pm – 10 pm. This is when your target audience is most likely to be active and online, meaning more people will see your posts.

Not using hashtags

Lastly, you’re not using hashtags, and this is a big mistake. Hashtags help people find your posts, so make sure you use ones that are relevant to you and your business. It’s basically the same as using keywords in SEO!
